Saint Peter’s University Jesuits Available for Comment on Jesuit Superior General Election

This week the 36th General Congregation of the Society of Jesus began to prepare for the election of the order’s next Superior General. The Superior General will be elected by 212 delegates on Friday, October 14. The congregation is being held near the Vatican and throughout the course of the week, the delegates will seek to identify the most suitable priest to lead the Catholic order of the Jesuits.

Saint Peter’s Jesuits are available to discuss, among other topics:

  • The election process of the Superior General
  • Potential impact of the new Superior General on the Jesuits, the Catholic Church and Jesuit higher education
  • The legacy of retiring Superior General Rev. Adolfo Nicolas, S.J.


Rev. Claudio Burgaleta, S.J., Ph.D.
Rector of the Saint Peter’s University Jesuit Community

Fr. Burgaleta holds a doctorate in systematic and historical theology from Boston College and has authored a number of books on the Catholic religion. He has taught courses at Saint Peter’s University, Loyola Maymount University and Fordham University. Born in Cuba, he has traveled widely throughout Latin America and ministered to Latinos in a variety of capacities and places.

Rev. Rocco Danzi, S.J.
Vice President for Mission and Ministry at Saint Peter’s University

Fr. Danzi holds a master’s degree in philosophy from Fordham University and a Master of Divinity from the Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He served as pastor and superior at the St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church in Crown Heights, Brooklyn before he joined the New York Province vocations team and traveled to different dioceses in the New York Province. Fr. Danzi has studied languages and cultures in the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Haiti and has also traveled extensively through the West Indies. He has been involved in young adult ministry and retreats.
